The Green Concept Runs Through the Entire Cycle of Beijing Winter Olympics Logistics

2021 is the first year of China's "carbon neutrality", with "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality" being included in the government work report for the first time and listed as one of the key tasks for 2021. As a logistics powerhouse, the logistics industry, as an industry with huge energy and material consumption, is imperative to transform towards greenery.
On September 28, the Beijing Business Daily officially released the 2021 Logistics Industry White Paper on the 2021 (seventh) Internet plus Logistics Pattern Forum, focusing on the development direction of safe, green and high-quality logistics industry.

In the authoritative interview section, industry experts conducted in-depth interpretations of logistics development, and Cao Li, Vice President of Hongyuan Holdings Group, was also invited to receive an interview. According to the interview content, the white paper released an article titled "Implementing the Green Concept throughout the Logistics Cycle of Beijing Winter Olympics":

Beijing Business Daily:It is understood that as the exclusive supplier of official storage facilities for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Beijing, Airport Hongyuan has specially created the main logistics center for the Beijing Winter Olympics, located in the Beijing Tianzhu Comprehensive Bonded Zone. Among them, "green" is one of the core design concepts, and in which core links has the main logistics center carried out environmental protection design?

Cao Li:The main logistics center created by Airport Hongyuan is positioned as a green and smart logistics park, incorporating the concept of energy conservation and emission reduction in various fields of design.

In order to save energy, the main logistics center utilizes natural lighting and ventilation technology through side windows and top skylights, combined with efficient and pollution-free LED lighting technology indoors and outdoors, to achieve an overall energy saving of 29%. During later operation, an intelligent energy management system can be used to monitor, track, and continuously improve the energy consumption and building carbon emissions performance of the project.

It can be said that the concept of low-carbon action and sustainable design, construction, and operation runs through the entire lifecycle of the project. The project adopts the LCA full life cycle assessment system for buildings, optimizes the structural system, and uses local environmentally friendly building materials, resulting in an 11% reduction in global warming potential, a 3.9% reduction in ozone depletion potential, a 10% reduction in soil and water acidification potential, a 15% reduction in eutrophication potential, and a 22% reduction in stratospheric ozone formation index.

In terms of water conservation and efficiency enhancement, both the north and south sides of the main logistics center outdoor are equipped with rainwater storage and collection tanks, while the east side adopts a concave green space with an effective depth of no less than 150mm to ensure sufficient rainwater infiltration. By utilizing a low impact development rainwater system within the site, rainwater is accumulated, infiltrated, and purified, maximizing the control of 90% of the rainfall in the Beijing area, reducing the pressure on municipal drainage networks, and promoting the utilization of rainwater resources and ecological environment protection.

Beijing Business Daily: In the face of international large-scale events, the main logistics center is mainly responsible for the centralized storage of a large amount of competition materials. What do you think are the biggest challenges in building such a logistics center? How was it resolved?

Cao Li:The location of the main logistics center plays a crucial role in facilitating the transportation and storage of international event materials. In order to achieve efficient customs clearance of Winter Olympics materials and rapid transportation between venues, after preliminary discussions and on-site exploration, the project was ultimately located in the Tianzhu Comprehensive Bonded Zone of Beijing. Because it is adjacent to Beijing Capital International Airport, it can ensure the rapid clearance of goods.

In addition, the transportation routes around the main logistics center are accessible in all directions, which also provides a guarantee for the rapid transportation of materials to different venues. The main logistics center is about 30 minutes' drive from Beijing Winter Olympics Village and Olympic Park Venue Cluster, about 90 minutes' drive from Yanqing Winter Olympics Village, and about 150 minutes' drive from Zhangjiakou Winter Olympics Village. It can achieve fast material delivery within 2.5 hours.

At the beginning of construction, in order to turn the main logistics center of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics into a landmark building within the Tianzhu Comprehensive Protection Zone, it was necessary to meet the requirements of unique exterior design, reasonable functional zoning, reasonable utilization of space, and efficient practicality. The main logistics center (MDC) for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics adopts a "2+1+1" design, divided into two warehouses, A and B, with an area of over 30000 square meters each. It is connected by one winding track and one unloading platform, providing high standard logistics and warehousing services for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

In line with the requirements of "simplicity, safety, and excellence" in hosting the Winter Olympics, the main logistics center we have specially designed for the Beijing Winter Olympics will continue to play a role in warehousing, exhibition, and display in the post Olympic era, making the Winter Olympics venues truly a sustainable Winter Olympics heritage.

Beijing Business Daily: Airport Hongyuan has been deeply involved in the logistics field for many years, widely serving cross-border e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods and other fields. From the perspective of the overall environment, the international epidemic still has uncertainty. What is the current recovery situation of cross-border logistics and customs clearance efficiency? How does Airport Hongyuan allocate resources to ensure logistics operations?

Cao Li:In January of this year, Airport Hongyuan and Jiangxi Railway Aviation Investment Group Co., Ltd. jointly established Jiangxi International Freight Airlines Co., Ltd. In terms of transportation capacity, a maximum of 21 high-density intercontinental flights per week can be achieved. At present, Airport Hongyuan is still making sufficient preparations for the upcoming "Anhui Hefei London" route. At the same time, Airport Hongyuan has established a series of front-end warehouses and overseas warehouses in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Japan, Europe, and the United States.

In terms of customs clearance, Airport Hongyuan is located at the cross-border e-commerce direct mail station in the comprehensive bonded zone, undertaking customs clearance operations for cross-border e-commerce direct mail goods, serving mainstream e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, JD, Vipshop, NetEase Kaola, and Princess Pea.

During the epidemic, Hongyuan Airport also provided customs clearance services for a large number of epidemic prevention materials. In order to ensure the safety of international cargo, disinfection and sterilization process is added to international inbound cargo. By increasing manpower and rotating work shifts, the overall clearance time is ensured to be basically the same as before the epidemic. At present, cross-border e-commerce small package goods can be completed within 2 hours from flight landing to customs clearance release, while imported bulk goods can be cleared within 6 hours at the earliest.
